F.A.Q.

Q: Who are you? What do you do?

Call me krad; I'm one of those old souls that prefer handles instead of real names for a multitude of reasons.

I'm a design manager to a team in the dayjob and leading a brand you've probably heard of, though I tend to think of it as subsidizing my work here. Always have loved to draw (mostly dinosaurs as a kiddo), but it really blossomed after I crossed paths with one particular video game character. I've worked on a published webcomic once, and handfull of zines recently - zines have been good for my short attention span and love of mixing design with sleazy art.

These days when not drawing, yours truly can usually be found reading mil-hist & hacking, screwing with an old gamecube, and generally poking where I should't be poking.

Why do you draw?

I don't like authority, and I really don't like it when people imply what artists should draw based on outdated ideas of being "moral" "good" or "clean". All of my favorite drawing subjects (beautiful and questionably kinky long-haired bishies, self inserts, boot and gun porn, shitposts) have incidentally also been the same subjects people have told me quite explicitly to stay away from. I guess it didn't work!

The fact I thought about this artist's statement while drawing a Che Guevara ahegao hoodie should tell you everything. :)

Q: What programs do you use?

I work off of Linux these days, and my absolute favorite program is Krita, a free and open sourced drawing software that's impressively versitile. In the past for my older works when I was on a MacBook Pro, I used Photoshop CS5.

Q: What social media sites are you on?

The only active social media sites my art logs crosspost to are tumblr, bsky, and baraag. Any other sites are no longer active or an imposter. If you prefer to have site updates delivered to you directly, please use the form below to have all updates sent via email roughly every quarter of a year. (the form will not show if you have Javascript disabled) Both art logs linked at the top of this site are RSS-enabled, as well as the text-based journal. RSS is a free, open source, open access technology nearly as old as the internet itself, and easy to start with. For tips on how to use RSS to follow updates, please see this page.

Q: Can I use your fanart? What's your fanwork/art policy?

Yes, you can use my fanart as long as it is not used for commercial reasons and if there is a credit back to this site. You do not need to ask permission (for fanart). Please note that not all artists feel the same way; it is common courtesy to ask them individually.

For original works (such as IRON CROWN), please ask me first.

Q: Can I voice-over one of your fandom comics?

Sure! Like the above, please add a credit back to this site. I’d also love a link as well, but it's not required.

Q: Do you take requests/commissions?

Requests are indefinitely closed. I keep telling myself I'm done with commissions but people have managed to tempt me when asking for slutty long-haired beautiful bishies, boot porn, and shitposts. Ask me if you think your idea is roughly in one of those categories, and what your budget is. No guarantee that I'll take it, but I can point you in the right direction for other artist friends if not, or if I don't have time.

Q: What are some tips for an art student?

Draw more than what you're currently drawing. Do deep dives into art and design history. Ignore anyone that dismisses your interests right out of hand. Make projects for yourself and see how well you can execute them. Take internships as soon as you can, with the mindset that you're trying to eliminate what you *don't* want to do for the rest of your life.

Be kind, be professional, show up on time.

Q: What’s IRON CROWN?

A gothic-thriller webcomic about a dictators daughter on the run, her living weapon, and her mercenary escorts all standing against a much darker enemy on the horizon. Currently on hiatus and rated for audiences 16+ for violence and adult themes. The main site is ironcrown.kradeelav.com
